A hunter in America got a
surprise when he discovered he'd killed a transgendered deer.
Carmen Erickson shot the animal just south of the confusingly
named Michigan, North Dakota. He'd assumed that the animal was a
buck, due to the large rack of antlers it sported on its head…
but, it turns out, not so much.
'It's got no male utilities,' said Erickson. 'It has teats... it
was pretty unusual.'
A biologist with the state Game and Fish Department told
Erickson that it was probably just a male with underdeveloped
testes – but Erickson is adamant that it's a lady.
He said: 'We couldn't find any
male genitals on the deer. We turned it over, and I got a lot of
heat over that. Like I was supposed to know.'
Reports suggest that it may not be the only transgendered deer
in the region. A number of reports of antlered does have been
coming in from neighbouring Minnesota – suggesting that a
potential army of gender-bending deer is massing in the
Midwestern states, for reasons we can currently only guess at.
