Quadruple Amputee To Run With The Bulls

Thursday, June 15 2006 @ 09:26 AM PDT

Jacksonville, NC: Max “Nubbs” Perry is an inspiration to all of those that are handi-capable. The 31 year old quadruple amputee who is confined to a wheel chair is currently training for the 2006 Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

Perry, a former stuntman and extreme sportiest, lost his first leg in a parachuting accident. “Well, my chute didn’t open; I landed on my left leg and blam-o, femur right through the thigh.” Perry and his crew were too far out for medical assistance, so he had to amputate his leg on the spot.

A few years later, Perry lost his arm fixing his '89 Trans Am, “My shirt got caught in the fan belt, took my arm with it, shoulda turned it off first, but it’s okay, now I got me this kick ass metal hook.”

Three months later, Perry would not only lose his right leg, but in the very same day, he would lose his left arm. “We was camping, I had to drop off the kids, so I hobbled away from the camp, so there I am, pants round my ankles. Next thing I know, a grizzly is staring me square in the eye”, said Perry describing this horrible ordeal. “Now I ain't no pussy, two limbs or not, I went toe to toe with that hairy bastard.”

The bear was in fact the victor that day, mauling Perry’s leg, and destroying his prosthetic limbs, but his day did not end there. “I was crawling back to camp, when out of nowhere, a damn snake bit me in the arm. I wasn’t sure if it was poisonous or not, so I chewed my right arm clean off.” Later Perry would discover that it was only a garden snake. “Hey, you win some you lose some,” he said.

Now, missing all of his limbs, Perry doesn’t let it stop him from keeping an active life. “I’m a fighter, you think that just because I’m missing my arms and legs it’s gonna stop me from kicking ass? Hell no man.”

Perry made the decision to run with the bulls earlier this year, “I won’t really be running, I got me a chair, a fast chair, with a spoiler on it.” Perry said he has no worries once he gets down hill, “It’s gonna be a rush baby, cause that’s how I roll.”
